About Us
Cracoe and Rylstone Voluntary Controlled Church of England Primary School is situated in the village of Cracoe in Upper Wharfedale, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the Yorkshire Dales. It was established as a Church of England School in 1853. The school has recently undergone a major building project, to bring the School House into school use. This has resulted in a very significant enhancement of school facilities, particularly as it has enabled the Foundation/Key Stage 1 room to be greatly expanded.

The tarmac playground is marked with games and there are grassed areas which can be used in the summer months. We also have the use of a playing field adjacent to the Village Hall.

The school benefits from an outstandingly supportive school community and has a very active ‘Friends’ association who organise frequent and varied social and sporting events. The ´Friends´ fund a wealth of resources, visits and visitors to enrich the learning experiences of the children.
Recently they bought us an excellent new greenhouse. We have been growing flowers, herbs and vegetables, some of which we have sold to raise funds to buy more gardening equipment.
The school also benefits from the very close proximity of the modern and spacious Cracoe Village Hall, which the school uses as an additional teaching space, for PE and for drama, musical and social events.
There are always lots of SMILES at Cracoe school. Excellence in teaching and enjoyment in learning is central to our ethos.
