Extended Schools
As part of the Upper Wharfedale Cluster, Cracoe Primary School is able to offer a range of Extended Schools activities and services.
As you will be aware, Extended Services through Schools is part of the Every Child Matters agenda with a core offer of services that all children will be able to access through schools by 2010 including:
- A varied range of activities including study support, sport and music clubs, combined with childcare in primary schools
- Parenting and family support
- Swift and easy access to targeted and specialist services
- Community access to facilities including adult and family learning, ICT and sports grounds.
A brand new Children´s Centre for Upper Wharfedale, for parents and their children under 5, is to be built on the site of Grassington School. The plans are currently being finalised and the proposed timelines are that the build will commence in March for a completion in September 2009. In the meantime, services continue to be offered from a range of community settings.
Over the past few months, physical play, story time and music sessions, Level 1 cycling and Autumn activities with the Yorkshire Dales National Park, a 5 week baby massage course and a fortnightly Bumps and Babies group have been offered.
To celebrate National Parenting Week, we joined with Extended Schools to run a Parents Pamper Day which was very well received. October half-term saw the launch of the long-awaited Mobile Toy Library for Wharfedale. This project is a result of community consultation in Spring 2007. The Toy Library has been commissioned by the Children´s Centre and will be delivered by the National Association of Toy and Leisure Libraries.
Ann Nicholson, the recently appointed Parent Support Advisor for Wharfedale, is delivering group activities and is able to take referrals from parents or professionals and can offer one to one support around a wide range of issues such as behaviour and routines. She can work with parents-to-be and those with children up to age 5.
